Kia ora e te whanau,
Ever noticed that where God leads, it can be quite interesting? None of our NZ Baptists living overseas necessarily PLANNED to do that! They were people like us, part of a Baptist Church, who came to a place where they “just knew” God wanted them to move (even with their families) to an unknown culture in an unknown country.
I got to visit a number of these people. I was astounded by their commitment to mission and the difference they were making. I was amazed at the difficulties they had to face. I was impressed by how teachable they had to be. And I was forced to ask questions such as: how does God care for billions of people around the world and how are we supposed to try and meet practical and spiritual needs?
Seeing overseas mission should always make us ask ourselves: “Would I be willing to go if God asked me to?” This should quickly be followed by the next question “Am I currently going to care for people and tell them the good news of Jesus where I am now?”
God guarantees to lead you to some interesting places and to some interesting people… if we let Him! Those people and places may be over the other side of the world… or they can be over our back fence or over the desk divider at work or over the coffee cups at our local cafe.
As we participate in Prayer and Self Denial this year, will you again ask God to lead you to some interesting places and to some interesting people…to be used by Him? And will you pray for how God does that all around the world?
May you be used by God in prayer and action!
