DUNCAN AND MAUREEN – RUTH’S BIBLE Print E-mail
Monday, 21 November 2011 00:00
'Ruth' met Maureen in the bustling city where they live. There was something different about this foreigner that piqued Ruth's interest. They became friends and, as Maureen shared about her life and faith, she gave Ruth a Bible in one of the languages of her home region.

Ruth realised this book was something special, and as she read it she came to know Christ. However she felt a constant tension as even possessing a Bible was forbidden. She knew she risked punishment if her husband or her family found out. One day it happened – her husband discovered the Bible. Intrigued, he began to read it himself. The same Word that had transformed his wife spoke to him and soon he too committed to following Jesus.

Now Ruth and her husband are an integral part of a small fellowship reaching others from their homeland who live in the busy city. They must be careful and wise, as it is a controversial step for someone of their culture to welcome faith in Christ, but they continue to grow and seek new disciples. It started with a Bible in the hands of a believer who was willing to share, and as Ruth's husband now works on translating the Scriptures into their own language, the story will continue.
