MISSION WORLD – Hawkes Bay Mission Expo Print E-mail

Saturday September 3 dawned bright and clear for the first MISSION WORLD Expo, held in Hawkes Bay. The event began as an initiative of Village Baptist Church to raise the profile of world mission. Rachel Murray of MISSION WORLD took the invitation and coordinated the event to include representatives of 16 organisations, all gathered to promote and resource the work of making the gospel known. From the soundbite seminars to a sausage sizzle lunch, people took the time to network and be informed about what God is doing around the globe. Each of the multiple seminars lasted a mere 20 minutes, with room for questions, discussion and feedback in each setting and giving participants room to explore multiple options over the day. These sessions covered education about mission matters, stories from the field and information about each of the agencies that are part of the MISSION WORLD collective. In between, people browsed 'Expo Central' in the main auditorium, where there was room for conversation with representatives of each organisation and others visiting from across the Bay.

The day was rounded off with a mission fiesta on Saturday night. Panel discussions covered important questions in the field of world missions. Jamie Wood of Pioneers New Zealand provided musical inspiration while local artist Sheryle White painted a visual reminder of the enduring call. This great event looks to be the first of many such expos that will be held around the country to raise the profile of missions and connect people who have heard God's call.
