The organisation that Pat is working with has been promoting solar cookers for more than eight years. Shaped like a shallow soup bowl mounted on a stand, the dish can be turned to track and capture the sun to find the best location for cooking. This is a sustainable method of cooking, particularly in the mountains of the country. After a number of attempts at finding the best options for the people, a lightweight model is now being imported.
In July Pat attended a "Sustainable Solutions for Rural Poverty" conference in Geneva to learn more about fostering sustainability in the village programmes that she is involved with. Those in attendance included policy makers from developing countries. The Director for Development in Pat's local province also attended. She is looking forward to seeing how he may make changes.
