Duncan and Maureen – teaching and learning - South Asia Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 April 2011 00:00

Duncan and Maureen are enjoying opportunities to teach as this activity is much more than teaching language. Their students ask many questions about important life matters and they are able to learn a lot from them too.

They are rejoicing that the ‘Club’ has been growing, with about 50 regular members (including children). Increased numbers bring more challenges. Three families have recently had their refugee status rejected and face deportation to an uncertain future. Some of the young men previously with them have become involved with bad companions and left. In recent times the number of children has increased to about 20 regulars. There are now more boys, and they have seen some good changes, such as children from different families playing with each other. This is a big thing when they come from a war-torn country where there is a lot of mistrust.

The study group has become more settled. The people are real beginners who don’t know much about the ‘Good Book’ and for many of the ladies it is really the first time they have had the opportunity to learn.
