Since taking the membership of the group, I began to learn many things about different aspects of life through meetings, seminars, personal discussions etc. One of such development topics was the ‘natural environment.’ Our village is close to the river and in constant danger from erosion. I used to think that natural disasters are God-made and humans can do nothing about that. But I was startled to learn that many natural disasters are the result of human actions.
I also learnt that we should keep the environment clean and to do so, we have to dispose of our household waste in a proper way. Learning this, I dug a hole behind my house and from then on, I put my kitchen and green waste in that hole. Then, one day the CDO told me that I can use the naturally made compost as fertilizer for my garden. I followed his instructions and I was happy to see the result. My vegetables were very healthy and green and I made a profit. The best news is that other villagers have followed my example and have also started using their own naturally made compost for gardening. I am grateful to Chandpur TCDC for teaching us about the environment and helping us to care for it.
