Clean, filtered drinking water is now available to all staff of the jute/T shirt businesses thanks to the generosity of a Baptist church and a company in Timaru. The quality of the local water is very poor, and illnesses caused by contaminated drinking water are rampant. Taps have been strategically located around the two buildings so the women can conveniently fill their water bottles, and take some home for their families. This has been a major infrastructure project, in planning for at least two years. The second phase of the project is to make filtered water available to the local community.
